Goya Prints at the Norton Simon
If you have never ventured to the Norton Simon Museum, treat yourself to one of LA’s finest collections. With an intriguing Goya show on view for another month, it’s a nice way to beat the heat!
The Norton Simon Museum is a small but exquisite treasure tucked away in Old Town Pasadena. Built around the collection of one of the 20th century’s most successful art collectors, the museum contains a selection of Asian, Impressionist, and Modern art rarities. A friend who recently moved here from New York told me it is her favorite place to visit when she misses her big city roots. With a collection that rivals east coast institutions, and an intimacy that calls to mind The Frick Collection, the jewel-box of a museum is one of my favorites, too.
Pasadena is having a moment as a hot destination (see below) so now is a great time to visit, especially if you can get to the Norton Simon before the closing of a show that has critics raving. ‘I Saw It: Francisco de Goya, Printmaker,’ displays four major print collections by the Spanish master, capitalizing on the museum’s extensive Goya holdings.
