Have You Been to the Academy Museum?
It's finally Oscar time, which begs the question of whether you've taken a moment to explore the Academy Museum. It's ready for its close-up, so sneak in a visit before awards season is over.
Since the shuttering of beloved theaters like the Landmark, and given the wide array of options for television and movies on streaming services, being in spaces where folks share their love for movies has become an uncommon experience. So I was encouraged by the news this week that an impressive slate of filmmakers, led by Jason Reitman, has taken over the Village Theater in Westwood (read about it here).
Reitman said he missed “feeling like I was part of a community of people who loved movies.” We got some of those collective “feels” during a recent visit to the Academy Museum, watching notable Oscar acceptance speeches and visiting the permanent Stories of Cinema exhibit, which uses popular films such as The Godfather and Casablanca to explain the art of cinema.
