Ocean Front Perfection in Malibu
There are treasures among us, perfect architectural specimens sprinkled around our city. We visited a mid-century modern masterpiece by Craig Ellwood, thanks to a project called Blakehaus.
Nothing is more relaxing than driving up the coast on a perfect winter’s day. A friend and I headed up the coast to the Malibu Colony on a gorgeous day last month, for an opportunity to tour “a quintessential example of California Modernism” designed and built by Craig Ellwood. We were able to visit The Hunt House, which is privately owned, courtesy of an installation produced by Peter Blake and his eponymous Laguna Beach gallery. Blakehaus is a series of site-specific projects that place period furniture and contemporary artwork in architecturally important spaces, offering the public the chance to glimpse a unique home at its peak ideal, if you will. Between the views and The Hunt House’s serene vibe, we fell under Malibu’s spell once more.
