I’ve been watching a new television show from Rene Redzepi, the Copenhagen restauranteur who has been named Best Chef in the world five times. In Omnivore, filmmakers circumnavigate the globe to tell in-depth stories about specific ingredients (chile, tuna, salt, banana, pig, rice, coffee and corn). The pleasing eight-part series makes the case that the global food system has dazzling variety and infinite complexity; it explores the diversity of traditional practices around food, unpacks the influence of corporate culture on global supplies, and touches on the challenges we all face from global warming.
