About Me
As the founder and editor of The Family Savvy, I helped parents find worthy activities to expand their family’s experience of the city and the world. And as the former LA Director for Common Sense Media, I helped parents manage media and technology in their family’s lives. My children are grown and now I am using my curiosity and my curatorial expertise to create timely itineraries for adults (whether they are parents or not!).
My mission is simply for our members to gain a deeper understanding of LA’s rich offerings, to venture beyond our beaten paths, and discover something new. Getting out into our city restores the soul just as any travel brings context. Gathering with friends strengthens relationships, learning something new stimulates the mind, and adding awe into our day is always a good idea. Let’s build a community together, one that cares about our city, its culture, and each other.
Each newsletter will provide the details and learnings from excursions that I've taken with friends so that you can do the same with your people. Everything you read has been vetted and enthusiastically recommended. After a recent excursion, a friend remarked “we saw as many new things as we would have seen if we’d been visiting another city, and we are still home for dinner!” While these adventures are geared towards adults, plenty will be good for kids and teens. The itineraries are designed to inspire you - you might take the adventure exactly as written, or use it as a jumping point for a day of your own creation.
In a world of information, I hope to save you some time by combing local offerings and sharing what’s worthy. I don’t write about things I don’t enjoy, and - importantly: I’m not a bot! Another subscriber said “I love your newsletters. Reading them is like having a well-informed friend sit down for tea and tell what’s happening in the world”. As our community grows in numbers, our goal is to be able to invite members to quarterly events around town. Stay tuned for details on this next step.
